No problems on Vista,
by Jack P. Hudnall, 2010-03-06

No problems downloading or using on Windows Vista, but the comments from other reviewers were helpful regarding the extra step of using the Amazon download software (I don't like putting stuff like that on my system but you can just turn it off after it's done), and about Deduction Pro - it gets downloaded too, just don't install that if you don't want to use it.

Windows 7, 64 bit,
by Mike, 2010-03-03

Downloaded flawlessly and runs fine on Win 7, 64 bit. Really like how the system breaks down the categories (Income, Deductions, etc.) and then lists the individual topics. Very easy to navigate and use. Like better than TurboTax 2008.

Easy Button,
by Big Armadillo, 2010-03-03

After reading both the positive and negative reviews, I decided to save $10 and go for immediate download delivery vs waiting on the USPS; I couldn't be more satisfied. Downloading was a breeze and the program installed on XP Home Media Center Edition without any issues.

Within a few minutes I had the software installed and my return started by importing data from last year's return and my W-2 info from my employer's payroll vendor.

I would have preferred to not have to install the Amazon software download tool. I'll uninstall it after my taxes are complete.

Two thumbs up!!

No download problems here,
by W. Hegardt, 2010-03-01

Based on previous reviews here mentioning download problems, I took a gamble and purchased the download version. My download and installation on Windows 7 went smoothly. I then selected and downloaded the state as well. I haven't filed yet, but it all seems to work fine for me.

Vista 64-bit download & install just fine. SW OK.,
by Dave B, 2010-02-28

Some reviews reported problems with Vista, but I was able to download and install on my 64-bit Vista system quickly and easily.

I haven't done the taxes yet, but the program itself looks much like other years. I've been using TaxCut for almost 10 years now and I prefer it over TurboTax (which I used only once before switching to TaxCut). That said, in prior years, the software is just OK. There are numerous little bugs that they never fix. For instance, if you use select an itemized list to detail a list of numbers, the program gets completely confused as to which list goes with which entry. This used to work fine, but was a new bug that showed up about 3 years ago. Of course, it's still there.

In prior years, technical support has been worse than non-existent, so I wouldn't expect any. I've previously reported here about the bug in the Massachusetts CB Credit form, which has been there ever since TaxCut added the form about 3 years ago. TaxCut incorrectly computes line 5, which reduces or eliminates this credit, which is important for seniors. I reported the bug to them then, but they haven't fixed it. As near as I can tell, there is no longer any way to report bugs to them -- I guess they're not interested, since they won't fix them anyway.

But, despite all that, the program is worth the money to me, as these are relatively minor issues (except the MA CB bug) that are easy enough to work around. I wouldn't want to go back to doing them manually, and my sense is that this program is still better than TurboTax. Hence, 3 stars.

Note that one reviewer reported that the SW is actually DeductionPro and not TaxCut, but this is incorrect. The product actually includes both of these programs. DeductionPro has been around for awhile, but the one time I looked at it (when it was given away free), it was worthless. After downloading, you'll have two setup files, one for TaxCut and one for DeductionPro; you simply need to execute the TaxCut setup program to install the TaxCut product.
